| The self
catering apartment is located in the heart of Keswick and therefore
has a huge range of nearby restaurants, shops, galleries –
infact everything you would expect from a vibrant Lake District
market town.
On the shores of Derwentwater, a five minutes walk from Keswick
town square, you will find the Keswick Launch Company which runs
hourly cruises around the lake. There are six jetties where you
can hop on and hop off or you can take a one way trip to the beginning
of your day's walk. They also hire rowing and self drive motor boats.
Near to the lake is the famous Theatre by the Lake. Formerly the
Blue Box, the Theatre by the Lake offers professional productions
aswell as a cafe (run by Bryson's Bakery). There are three floors
of exhibition space which house continual local and national art
work (and other exhibitions).
There are many family related activities such as Cars of the Stars
(where you can see many famous motor vehicles from films and television),
Trotters World of Animals (where children can close to many farmyard
and wild animals), the Cumberland Pencil museum (see the World's
biggest pencil), the Keswick spa (swimming pool) and the Keswick
Climbing wall.
For those interested in sports there is the nearby Keswick mountain
bikes which has daily hire and many climbing shops which will provide
you with information on the best climbs in the area. On nearby Derwentwater
you can sail or windsurf and there are some great rapids for canoeing.
Threlkeld golf course offers a stunning mountain course and welcomes
visitors (see image at top of page).
There are some lovely Lakeland drives which can take you through
some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain. The nearby hamlets
and villages (Buttermere, Stonethwaite, Lorton, Mungrisedale etc)
are all stunning in their own right. We supply information on some
of the various walks and drives throughout the Northern Lake District.
The Northern Lake District has a reputation of having some of the
finest - and most challenging - walks in
Britain. From Keswick you can head out on foot or catch the local
buses which go down the Borrowdale valley, towards the central lakes
or over to Lorton. Alternatively you can catch the Keswick
Launch to the other side of the lake and walk from there. There
are many good pubs which provide wholesome Cumbrian meals and ale
en route. |
